2020-25. Masks were a central theme in my work for a decade when the events of 2020-21 rocked our country. Maybe it was the sense of instability, but my total lack of creative response was quite puzzling and discouraging. With time and perspective, ideas began surfacing, resulting in this continuing body of work.
During that unprecedented time, we were under attack not only from the invisible, but also from political extremism, ignorance, and intolerance. The foundation of our healthcare system and democracy was shaken to the core.
This work is about our current state of vulnerability, the subconscious, and the corners of ourselves, individually and collectively, that exist in darkness.
